Caitlin Clarke, DPT

Physical Therapist

I went to undergraduate school at West Liberty University to obtain a B.S. degree in exercise physiology. Then, I went to the University of Toledo to receive my Doctor of Physical Therapy.

What do you find most rewarding about working in physical therapy? I find it most rewarding when my patients feel themselves doing a movement/activity that they couldn't imagine doing before starting PT and see their hard work come to fruition in a few sessions. (i.e. running, walking a mile, getting on/off the floor without assistance, getting out of bed without pain)

In your opinion, what is the key to a successful patient-therapist relationship?
Connecting with my patients is very important to me. In my opinion, the biggest key is to have honest and open communication. I always tell my patients they are the “star of the show,", so if they don't like an activity or exercise that I planned for them, then we can always modify it so they can have a good time while working hard at their goals. I also always check in with my patients before starting their session so I can help them bring their 100% that they can give for that day.

What do you enjoy doing outside of work to maintain your own physical and mental well-being? I love working in my garden and trying to perfect my green thumb (currently working on it but it is not exactly green at the moment haha!), taking long walks on the farm with my dog, baking (lots of baking) and doing yoga.

What advice would you give to someone considering physical therapy as a solution to their health concerns?
I would tell them that movement really is the best form of medicine that will consistently have a positive impact on physical AND mental health. PT is more than exercise – it consistently practices evidence-based mindfulness techniques, movement mechanics, and healing for all people.
